Probability » Probabilities
A probability can be calculated with the following formula.
Probability = number of good outcomesnumber of possible outcomes
This definition can be clarified using a die.
Let's say you want to know the probability of throwing a 5 with a 6-faced die.
The number of good outcomes is 1, because there is only one face with 5 pips.
The number of possible outcomes is 6, as there is a total of 6 faces on a die.
Therefore, the possibility of throwing a 5 is equal to 16.
